The Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy, announced earlier this year, has officially begun operations. The Technician Commitment is excited to announce it will be housed within the Institute from this point forward. Since its inception in 2017, the Technician Commitment has been hosted by the Science Council and partly funded by Gatsby Education. The Technician Commitment warmly extends its thanks for their support and look forward to continuing our work together as a key strategic partner of ITSS.
Kelly Vere MBE, Technician Commitment Lead said:
“As we celebrate this new milestone, we want to express our gratitude to the Science Council for hosting the Technician Commitment for the past six years. The support of Science Council has allowed Technician Commitment to grow and flourish in the way it has, and the new broader mission of the ITSS is testament to that. We look forward to continuing to work with Science Council to promote visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technical careers across science.”
The new institute, funded by Research England and located at the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus, will focus on technical skills, roles and careers, and their contributions to the economy and the technical talent and know-how required to fulfil the government’s ambitions for the UK to become an innovation nation can be delivered. The Technician Commitment’s aims of visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability remain the same and will complement the ITSS’s pillars of insight, influence, innovation and integration.
