Technician Commitment welcomes new Chair to Steering Board

Since its inception in 2017, the Technician Commitment has been governed by a Steering Board of sector bodies.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Clare Viney as the new Chair of the Technician Commitment Steering Board.

Clare has been an active member of the Technician Commitment Steering Board since 2017 and is a Chartered Scientist and Chemist, with extensive experience in the science community and not-for-profit sector.

She is the Chief Executive Officer of CRAC/Vitae, a registered UK charity dedicated to supporting career development and active, career-related learning.

Clare follows in the footsteps of Dr Helen Pain, who now chairs the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy’s (ITSS) Advisory Board.

Clare Viney, Chair, Technician Commitment Steering Board said:

"The motivation behind my work is empowering people to realise their potential and to achieve their career and development goals, as such I am passionate about investing in those from diverse backgrounds and know how important it is to invest in technical skills for the next generation.

I am therefore thrilled to be the new Chair to the Steering Board for the Technician Commitment. The work of the ITSS across higher education, research and innovation is vital to encourage technical skills in order to face current and future challenges nationally and globally."

Dr Kelly Vere MBE, Director for the Technician Commitment also commented:

“We warmly welcome Clare in her new role as Chair of the Steering Board. Our team is focussed on supporting our existing community and identifying opportunities to engage new signatories and supporters to influence change with impact. Clare’s expertise and experience on the Steering Board means a seamless changeover of leadership that will help us to deliver on our ambitions to grow our community, allowing us to drive change together.

Dr Helen Pain’s guidance and dedication in her role as the Steering Board Chair has been invaluable to the success of the Technician Commitment. We are pleased she continues to influence the strategic direction of this agenda through her role as Chair of the ITSS Advisory Board, which is now home of the Technician Commitment.”

Dr Helen Pain, Chair, for the Institute’s Advisory Board said:

“I have been immensely proud to be Chair of the Technician Commitment Steering Board since its inception. The initiative has grown from strength to strength and has continued to enable real change for the career development, recognition, visibility and sustainability of the technical community.

I am delighted that Clare Viney has agreed to take on the role of Chair. Clare has been a very active member of the Steering Board from the start and contributes significantly through her role as CEO of CRAC.”
