The Technician Commitment is delighted that Stephen, one of our Steering Board members, has been recognised for his services for technical staff in research and education
Stephen was instrumental in encouraging King's College London to become a founding signatory of the Technician Commitment in 2017. In 2019, Stephen's post was created, embedded in the Research Management & Innovation Directorate (RMID) as technical staff development manager and institutional lead for the initiative. He also spearheaded the London and Southeast Technical Managers Network across 20 different Universities, providing a platform for collaborative growth across the HEI and Research Institute sector.
In a time when technical skills are increasingly sought-after in both higher education and the private sector, when the average age of a technician is rising and it is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit, Stephen's efforts in promoting the importance of technical skills, while advocating for their protection and advancement, have been both timely and impactful. His advocacy for the Technician Commitment has transformed the landscape of technical services in higher education and profoundly impacted technical staff recognition at King's College and beyond.
Join us in congratulating Stephen for his tireless efforts in highlighting the essential work technical services play in research and teaching.
