The action plan is designed to highlight what the IOP will do to support the technician workforce in the world of physics and engineering. The plan was launched at a reception evening, including a presentation from Paul Cook, the IOP’s first Fellow who is a practicing technician, in recognition and celebration of the valuable role professional technicians play across the economy.
Kelly Vere, Higher Education Engagement Manager, Science Council and Technician Commitment Lead, said: “The Technician Commitment allows an organisation to demonstrate a set of values that recognises the important part technicians play in the workforce. The IOP have clearly set out how they will meet these values, including career development, visibility, recognition and sustainability. We are proud to have the support of the IOP and look forward to seeing further progress.”
In November, the IOP will be announcing the winners of their inaugural technician award, to celebrate the contributions of the technical workforce in physics and engineering.
