By joining the Technician Commitment, the University pledges to improve the sustainability and development of its technical workforce. These staff members are central to the success of teaching, research, and innovation, yet often operate behind the scenes.
Bangor University has long recognised the essential role of its technical staff, and by signing this Commitment, we reaffirm our dedication to providing the support, recognition, and development opportunities they deserve.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Paul Spencer emphasised the importance of this commitment, saying:
"Technicians are the backbone of our institution. Their skills, expertise, and hard work are fundamental to our research. We are dedicated to creating a culture where their contributions are recognised and where they have clear pathways for career progression and development."
Dr Charlotte Baxter MRSC, Chief Technician at the School of Computer Science and Engineering added:
“I am thrilled that the University has become a signatory of the Technician Commitment. As a technician, I am pleased that the University has pledged to ensure that the technical workforce is recognised, rewarded and sustained for future generations across all disciplines. As the technical lead for developing our Technician Commitment action plan, I will be looking for technician reps from across the University to join me on the Steering group and would ask any Technicians interested in getting involved to get in touch.”
Dr Simon Breeden, Associate Lead, Technician Commitment, said:
“The Technician Commitment is thrilled to welcome Bangor University as our latest signatory, proudly demonstrating the University’s commitment to developing and supporting their technical staff and ensuring positive culture change for the technical community. We are keen to ensure technicians in Wales have a powerful and distinctive voice in the UK technical sector and it is exciting to add Bangor University to that growing community of technicians.
