The Technician Commitment Collaboration Fund is a small grants scheme available exclusively to signatory institutions. This year, we are offering funding of up to £1,000 for initiatives that bring technicians together in support of the Commitment’s aims – ensuring visibility, recognition, sustainability and career development for all technical staff in higher education and research.
As a sector-wide initiative, the Technician Commitment has always depended on collaboration to achieve our ambitions. The aim of the Collaboration Fund is to support innovative projects that seek to achieve better outcomes for technicians through activities which create and strengthen these networks of collaboration.
The Fund received a record number of applications, all of which were of high enough calibre to be awarded funding.
The successful projects are:
Babraham Institute - Animal Technician Conference
Canterbury Christ Church University - Kent Technicians Network 2023 Symposium
Cranfield University - Technical Specialist Job Shadowing
Falmouth University – Further supporting research on 'The technicalities of cacao’ with Rio Nuevo
John Innes Centre – Cross-Institute Technician-led accessible science event
Ulster University - Technical Action Plan for NI
University of East Anglia - Eastern ARC Technician’s Network Launch Symposium
University of Exeter - Improving Confidence in Technicians
University of Southampton - Creation of a new South and South West Technical Network
University of York - Fully Entrenched: Kickstarting a sustainable network for technical staff supporting archaeological research and teaching

“It is with great pleasure we’re able to award a record number of grants to signatories looking to collaborate with one another, and those outside the Technician Commitment community, in support of technicians. This year’s applications were of extremely high calibre and demonstrated clear understanding of the Technician Commitment’s aims: visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability. I look forward to seeing the exciting events, networking opportunities and personal development initiatives to come.”
